{"id":7230,"date":"2023-09-07T12:12:20","date_gmt":"2023-09-07T10:12:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edifyeduproject.eu\/2023\/09\/07\/lower-wages-and-employment-for-women-in-greek-businesses\/"},"modified":"2023-09-07T12:12:20","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T10:12:20","slug":"lower-wages-and-employment-for-women-in-greek-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edifyeduproject.eu\/it\/lower-wages-and-employment-for-women-in-greek-businesses\/","title":{"rendered":"Lower wages and employment for women in Greek businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Hellenic Federation of Enterprises<\/strong> (SEV) conducted between <strong>March-April 2023<\/strong>, a <strong>survey <\/strong>of <strong>businesses <\/strong>and the <strong>general public<\/strong> in order to <strong>capture the current situation<\/strong> and <strong>identify <\/strong>any <strong>necessary legislative interventions<\/strong> or other <strong>business empowerment initiatives<\/strong>. <br>This survey was organized into <strong>3 sections<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 The <strong>position <\/strong>of <strong>women <\/strong>in <strong>business<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 <strong>Promoting gender equality<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 <strong>Business beliefs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The results of the research are then presented with the aim of raising the awareness of both businesses and the State in order to make full equality at work a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"591\" height=\"839\" src=\"https:\/\/www.edifyeduproject.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/greek-gender.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.edifyeduproject.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/greek-gender.png 591w, https:\/\/www.edifyeduproject.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/greek-gender-211x300.png 211w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 591px) 100vw, 591px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a survey conducted by the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) on the position of <strong>women<\/strong> in <strong>Greek businesses <\/strong>that was presented to the <strong>Association&#8217;s General Council<\/strong>, data emerges that for the average Greek is not &#8220;news&#8221;, but for the average European citizen, it can be an element of &#8220;distinction&#8221; in the workplace space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"633\" height=\"353\" src=\"https:\/\/www.edifyeduproject.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/SEV-Survay_CoverPage-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.edifyeduproject.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/SEV-Survay_CoverPage-2.jpg 633w, https:\/\/www.edifyeduproject.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/SEV-Survay_CoverPage-2-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 633px) 100vw, 633px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Working women<\/strong> in <strong>Greece <\/strong>receive lower wages, are <strong>underrepresented in positions of responsibility and still face a multitude of stereotypes.<\/strong> Specifically, the average gross full-time <strong>salary <\/strong>for <strong>women <\/strong>is 1.115 euros, i.e. <strong>13% lower than the corresponding salary for men<\/strong> (1.284 euros), <strong>half of the companies <\/strong>(53%) <strong>have zero or very limited<\/strong> (up to 15%) <strong>participation of women in the Management Council<\/strong> while <strong>one in ten companies <\/strong>(11%) do <strong>not trust a female leader<\/strong> in any department or department of the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to this <strong>survey<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>9 out of 10 companies agree <\/strong>that <strong>gender equality in business is very important<\/strong>, yet more than 8 out of 10 (83%) do not have specific targets or track specific indicators regarding gender equality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Women make up 51.7% of the country&#8217;s population<\/strong> and <strong>47.67% of all employees<\/strong> (2022). On the contrary, in the unemployment rate they prevail over men to a greater extent, with 64.2% of the unemployed coming from them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>However, only<strong> 17% of businesses have goals and monitors specific indicators<\/strong> (such as indicative percentages of male\/female employees, remuneration, percentages of executives\/ administration, etc.) <strong>while 83% do not monitor the issue of gender equality<\/strong> in a systematic way. In the big ones businesses, <strong>25% set and track goals<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"630\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/www.edifyeduproject.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/SEV-Survay_CoverPage-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.edifyeduproject.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/SEV-Survay_CoverPage-3.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.edifyeduproject.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/SEV-Survay_CoverPage-3-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moreover,<strong> Greece is at 53% of the general equality index <\/strong>based on the <strong>European Observatory on Gender Equality<\/strong>, compared to <strong>68% of the EU average<\/strong>, which implies only partial utilization of human capital of the country, with a negative effect on the productivity and international competitiveness of businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the <strong>President of the SEV<\/strong>, mr. <strong>Papalexompoulos <\/strong>is noting, &#8220;<em>it is extremely important to support businesses and provide them with the right tools so that they can realize that <strong>the issue of equality is a factor for survival, development and the establishment of a relationship of trust with society.<\/strong> Our own institutional role is to show the way to inclusion, which has multiple benefits for businesses, employees. It opens up horizons to different perspectives and skills and offers competitive advantages to businesses that follow it.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the corresponding direction, <strong>Ms. Iulia Tseti<\/strong>, <strong>Head of the SEV\u2019s Working Group for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion<\/strong>, states that \u201cThe inadequacy of women&#8217;s participation in positions of responsibility, it is primarily a matter of a profound lack of culture, but of institutions too. <em>Gender equality should be treated as core value in every company and Organization, while the institutional framework for equality, it is necessary to constantly being evaluated\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, on the occasion of the research, the <strong>SEV is planning for<\/strong> the next period an information and awareness campaign to <strong>strengthen the employment of women<\/strong> and <strong>promote gender equality<\/strong> at work, entitled &#8220;<strong>Operation Equality<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the research findings show, there are many points where entrepreneurship can focus, put goals and take actions. The most important concerns increasing employment, support for professional growth and development, equal payments, the improvement of benefits and ensuring an equal working environment without harassment and violence. In other words, multiple benefits are recognized from it; implementation of policies for equality at work and all businesses in today&#8217;s era need, to pursue and monitor the implementation of equality and to implement governance practices and management systems for its reinforcement.
